Hawks fall to Maryville in Game 3 of USA South series

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Huntingdon baseball team closed out its three-game conference series at Maryville with a 4-1 loss on Saturday.

The teams split in the first two games on Friday, with Huntingdon winning 7-2 in Game 1 and losing 11-3 in Game 2.

Huntingdon held Maryville to three hits in the first five innings on Saturday, but trailed 2-0. The Hawks cut it to 2-1 in the top of the sixth with an RBI single by Taylor Fought, but Maryville answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to close the scoring.

Fought accounted for two of Huntingdon's three hits in the game. Corey Lowe scored the Hawks' run.

Huntingdon and Maryville pitchers combined for 18 strikeouts, four walks, 11 hits and three earned runs allowed.

Brooks Freeman (1-2) took the loss for the Hawks, striking out seven, walking two, giving up six hits and allowing three earned runs in six innings. John Crawford took the mound in relief in the seventh inning and struck out three, walked one and allowed two hits in two scoreless innings.
