Huntingdon rolls past Oglethorpe for 20th win of the season

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team knocked off Oglethorpe 11-1 in eight innings on Monday night.

The win was the 20th of the season for the Hawks (20-18). This is the 13th time in 14 seasons under head coach D.J. Conville that Huntingdon has won at least 20 games in a season.

Huntingdon scored four runs in the fifth inning to take the lead for good and put the game away with three runs in the seventh inning and three runs in the eighth inning.

Tied 1-1 in the fifth, a two-run double by Chandler DeRieux and an RBI single by Bradley Harris made it 4-1. Harris scored on an error to make it 5-1.

In the seventh inning, a run by Jud Owens and a two-run single by Wes Powell made it an 8-1 game. The Hawks closed the scoring in the eighth as Garrett Headley drew a bases-loaded walk and Will Cosby was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Powell drove in the final run with a single.

Harris finished 4-for-4 with three runs and an RBI, Owens was 3-for-4 with three runs, an RBI and three stolen bases and Powell was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs. Taylor Fought was 3-for-4 with a run, DeRieux drove in two runs and Chris Fisher scored two runs. Cosby and Headley each had one RBI.

Carden Mellown (7-3) picked up the win, striking out six, walking three, scattering six hits and allowing one earned run.
