Mellown and Fought earn All-Region honors

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – Huntingdon sophomore Carden Mellown and senior Taylor Fought were both recognized with the release of the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-South Region teams on Tuesday.

Mellown was named second-team All-South Region as a pitcher and Fought was selected as a third-team All-South Region utility player. Mellown and Fought are the seventh and eighth Hawks to be named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region team since 2012.

Mellown led the Hawks on the mound this season with a 7-3 record and one save in 13 appearances. The Hueytown, Ala., native finished with 79 strikeouts and a 3.07 ERA in 82 innings. Mellown ranked 11th in the South Region in strikeouts this season and was tied for 11th in wins.

Fought started in all 40 games for the Hawks this season. A native of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., he led the team with 68 hits, a .400 batting average, 49 RBIs, 15 doubles, four home runs and a .571 slugging percentage. He was fourth on the team with 34 runs. In the South Region, he tied for sixth in hits, ranked in the top-10 in RBIs and was 11th in batting average.
