Hawks complete series sweep of Averett

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team wrapped up its first conference series sweep of the season with a 12-6 win over Averett on Sunday.

The Hawks won the first two games of the series 9-7 and 7-1 on Saturday.

In Sunday's game, Huntingdon fell behind 3-0 in the top of the second but answered with a run in the bottom of the second on a Colton Clark ground out and another run in the bottom of the third on a Wes Powell sacrifice fly.

Trailing 3-2 in the fifth inning, Huntingdon (9-0, 3-0 USA South) scored four runs to take the lead for good. A two-run single by Bradley Harris drove in Chris Fisher and Will Cosby to give the Hawks a one-run lead. Garrett Breland scored on an error and Harris scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-3 at the end of the fifth.

After Clark scored on an error in the sixth inning, the Hawks added four more runs in the seventh inning. Harris scored the first run of the inning before Clark singled to drive in another run. A sacrifice fly by Cosby and a RBI single by Powell made it an 11-3 game. In the eighth inning, Ryan Meadows singled to drive in Andrew Knight for the Hawks' final run.

Clark finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs and Harris was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs. Powell had two hits and two RBIs and Cosby had two runs, an RBI and a triple. Breland and Meadows each had an RBI and a run and Fisher and Knight each scored twice.

Wallace Henry (2-0) earned the win in seven innings, striking out two, walking three, giving up seven hits and allowing three earned runs.
