Powell earns spot on D3baseball.com Team of the Week

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – Huntingdon shortstop Wes Powell was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week on Tuesday for his performance in the 22nd-ranked Hawks' three-game conference sweep of Averett last weekend.                       

This is the third straight week a Huntingdon player has received national recognition on the Team of the Week. Powell joins pitcher Carden Mellown and center fielder Heath Haskins as Hawks who have been recognized in the first three weeks of the season.

Powell was one of 13 players recognized nationally this week. In the series with Averett, Powell had a .600 batting average, .900 slugging percentage and a .643 on-base percentage. He was 6-for-10 with three doubles, three RBIs and two runs.

In Game 1 of the series, the junior was 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in a 9-7 win. Powell was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs in a 7-1 victory in Game 2. In the final game of the series, a 12-6 win, Powell was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Entering Tuesday's game at Millsaps, Powell led the Hawks with a .441 batting average, a .512 on-base percentage, 15 hits and was tied for the team lead with nine runs this season.
