Hawks fall to 14th-ranked Piedmont in first two games of series

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Huntingdon baseball team lost the first two games of a three-game conference series with 14th-ranked Piedmont on Friday.

The two teams opened the series on Thursday night and played through the top of the seventh inning before weather postponed the game. After the final 2 ½ innings were played on Friday, Piedmont picked up a 10-3 victory. Huntingdon lost the second game 8-3.

In Game 1, Wes Powell was 2-for-5 with a run and a double and Heath Haskins was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Andrew Knight scored one run. Carden Mellown (3-2) took the loss. Mellown (four), Garrett Feemster (six) and Kyle Phillips (three) combined for 13 strikeouts.

Wallace Henry (5-2) took the loss in Game 2. Henry (five) and Tucker Duke (five) combined for 10 strikeouts.

Powell was 2-for-5 with a run, Chris Fisher was 2-for-4 with a run and Knight was 2-for-4. Haskins, Garrett Breland and Colton Clark each had one RBI and Will Cosby scored one run.

Coming Up: Huntingdon and Piedmont will play Game 3 of their series on Saturday at noon at Posey Field.
