Hawks Run Rule Virginia Wesleyan

Montgomery, Ala.-Huntingdon Baseball defeated Virginia Wesleyan, 15-5, in 7 innings. 

Virginia Wesleyan came out ready, adding 4 runs in the top of the first. Huntingdon came back in the bottom of the first and got on the board when Colin Whibbs brought in Andrew Knight with an RBI single after Knight's leadoff double. 

Cade Morgan's RBI single added another run in the fourth inning followed by Innes Mackay's RBI single to make it 4-3 Virginia Wesleyan. Daniel Patton reached on an error that scored 2, giving the Hawks a 5-4 lead. Hall Billings and Andrew Knight each had RBI singles in the 4th, making it 7-4 Hawks. Daniel Phillips was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, bringing in Andrew Knight

Virginia Wesleyan added a run in the 5th inning but the Hawks weren't done yet. Ryan Greene's RBI single in the bottom of the 5th brought in 2 runs followed by Noah Phillips' RBI groundout. In the 6th, Andrew Knight's RBI single gave the Hawks a 12-5 lead. Cade Morgan doubled down the left field line in the 7th, bringing in 2 runs and securing the run rule.

Eddie Patterson  (1-1) earned the win, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing 1 run on 4 hits with 7 strikeouts. Andrew Knight was 3-4 with 2 runs and 2 RBI. Noah Phllips was 3-5 with 2 runs and 2 RBI while Innes Mackay was 2-3 with 2 runs and 1 RBI. The Hawks totaled 17 hits with 3 walks.

The Hawks close out the Firehouse Classic tomorrow, February 20th, when they take on Mississippi University for Women at 3:30 PM CST.
