HUNTINGDON’S POSEY NAMED DIVISION III QUARTERBACK OF THE WEEK

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon College quarterback Neal Posey helped guide the Hawks to a 48-41 win over Faulkner University on Saturday.

In the process, the junior turned in one of the best performances by a quarterback in Huntingdon history. Posey completed 31-of-43 passes for 439 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions. His final touchdown strike, with 37 seconds left in the game, put the Hawks ahead for good.

On Tuesday, D3football.com recognized Posey for his performance by naming him the quarterback on its nationwide Team of the Week.

"It's a tremendous honor for Neal," Huntingdon head coach Mike Turk said. "When you stop and think that there are 240 Division III football teams and 240 starting quarterbacks, to be recognized as the Quarterback of the Week is a big deal."

Posey's six touchdown passes tied the Huntingdon record for a single game. Zach Golson was the first Huntingdon quarterback to set the mark. Posey tied the record last season against Trinity before matching the mark again against Faulkner.

Posey's 31 completions are the second most in school history and four short of Golson's record. His 439 passing yards are the third most by a Huntingdon quarterback. Justin Ridgeway holds the top two spots with 469 yards against Mississippi College in 2009 and 441 yards against Westminster in 2009.

"Posey's numbers were great," Turk said. "Anyone can look at the stats and see that he had a great day. But what really impressed me, was not just what he was able to do, but how he did it. I was really pleased with his decision making, the way he went through his progressions and put the ball where it needed to go. He didn't try to force it."

Posey completed passes to 12 different receivers. He hit Willie McDowell for three touchdowns and Nick Sheppard for one in the first half. He connected with Austin Worley for a 65-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter and hit preseason All-American Cody Pearcy on a 25-yard scoring strike for the game-winning touchdown.

"As a coach, you're always pleased when a guy does everything he can to do what the coaches are asking of him," Turk said. "That's what Posey did. He did a good job of taking what we worked on during the week and applying it in the game. It paid off for us in the end."
