Huntingdon nearing end of preseason practice

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon football team wrapped up its final practice before the start of classes with a two-hour workout on Sunday. With the first day of classes on Monday, the Hawks will have a day off from practice before returning to the field on Tuesday.

Huntingdon will hold its final preseason scrimmage on Wednesday. The scrimmage is tentatively set for 4 p.m.

"We've got a couple days left in preseason mode, basically, just working to get better," Turk said. "We'll have our final preseason scrimmage and then we'll start preparing for the first game and be in game-week mode the following week."

Huntingdon opens the season at home on Sept. 1 against Maryville. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

With 11 practices in the books, Turk said the team is coming along.

"As a head coach, you never feel like you're as far along as you need to be. But, we have made some progress," Turk said. "We've been able to identify some guys that we think will be able to help us. We're inexperienced at a few positions and we've been trying to find the guys that can step in. It looks like we have some guys stepping forward that we can count on.

"We're still a long way from where we need to be, but hopefully we will continue to progress."
