Hawks select football team captains

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Three seniors and one junior were selected as team captains for the Huntingdon football team this week.

Senior receiver Tyler Robinson, senior quarterback Ryne Taylor, senior linebacker John-David Swiger and junior linebacker Zach Brownell were selected by a vote of their teammates.

"It's definitely an honor to have your peers vote you as a captain of the team," Brownell said. "But it's an honor that comes with a lot of responsibility. We have to be guys that lead by example on the field and off the field."

Head coach Mike Turk said each of the four captains is deserving of the recognition.

"The biggest honor you can receive as the member of a team is to be voted a captain by your teammates," Turk said. "I think the guys did a good job selecting the captains. These four guys are all solid players and solid people and have each been leaders in this program.

"The best part is there are several other guys that could have been captains and that did receive a significant amount of votes. To me, that says a lot about the caliber of players on this team."

Swiger said each of the captains understands the importance of providing leadership and helping set the tone for the team.

"This is a big honor for all of us. It's humbling," Swiger said. "You look at the guys who have been voted captains in the past and I think each of us wants to be that kind of player. We all want to be a guy our teammates know they can count on."

Huntingdon's preseason practice continues this week with a third scrimmage set for Saturday at 10 a.m.
