Hawks place six on All-Conference football team

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Six Huntingdon football players earned All-Conference honors with the release of the USA South All-Conference teams on Wednesday.

Offensive linemen Joey Peacock and Chael Pridgen and defensive back Anthony White were each named first-team All-Conference and running back Garrett Fletcher, H-Back/tight end Darius Dawsey and linebacker John-David Swiger were each named second-team All-Conference.

"We're proud to have these guys representing us our first year in the conference," Huntingdon head football coach Mike Turk said. "We haven't been a part of a conference, so none of these guys have had this opportunity before. I'm excited for the seniors selected that they had a chance to experience this and for the younger guys, we're glad to have them coming back."

Peacock, a senior, and Pridgen, a sophomore, anchored the line for an offensive unit that led Division III with 585.8 yards of offense per game and set Huntingdon records with 436 points scored, 5,858 yards of offense and 3,447 passing yards. The Hawks had the third best rushing season in school history with 2,411 yards on the ground.

White was second on the team with 77 tackles as a sophomore and picked off one pass. His 77 tackles are the seventh most in a season by a Hawk. White, who was also the Hawks' second leading tackler as a freshman, has 120 tackles in two seasons.

Fletcher rushed for a career-high 809 yards and 14 touchdowns as a senior to earn second-team honors. His yards are the sixth most in a season by a Hawk and his rushing touchdowns are the fourth most. He ends his career as the Hawks fourth all-time leading rusher.

Dawsey made his first season at H-Back count, finishing fifth on the team in receiving yards with 332, averaging 19.5 yards per reception and scoring three touchdowns. The sophomore's final touchdown allowed the Hawks to take the lead for good in a 45-38 win over conference champion Maryville.

Swiger, the Hawks' leading tackler this season, closed his career with a school-record 96 tackles this season and ranks sixth all-time in the Huntingdon record book with 184 tackles. He tied the school record for tackles in a game with 17 against Louisiana College. His 50 solo tackles this season are the second most in Huntingdon history.

In addition to the six All-Conference selections, quarterback Ryne Taylor was named a Sportsmanship Award winner.

Former Huntingdon assistant and current Maryville head coach Mike Rader was named the USA South Coach of the Year. Methodist quarterback Max Reber earned Offensive Player of the Year honors and LaGrange linebacker Andre Carter was named the Defensive Player of the Year.
