Green and Coleman named USA South Athletes of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Huntingdon's Jake Green and Willie Coleman were recognized as two of the USA South Athletes of the Week on Monday.

Green, a senior linebacker, was named Football Defensive Player of the Week, and Coleman, a junior receiver/return man, was named Football Special Teams Player of the Week.

In a 45-40 win over N.C. Wesleyan on homecoming, Green recorded nine total tackles and one interception. His interception came with less than three minutes remaining and helped the Hawks secure the win in their conference opener. In addition to his interception, Green broke up a two-point conversion attempt after the Battling Bishops' final touchdown to prevent a three point game.

Coleman provided a spark on special teams for Huntingdon, returning two kicks for 132 yards, including an 89 yard return for a touchdown. The return was the second-longest kickoff return in program history and was just the fifth kickoff returned for a touchdown in program history. Coleman currently leads the USA South with 323 return yards. He is averaging 29.4 yards a return and has one touchdown.

Football Offensive Player of the Week
Malik Adams, N.C. Wesleyan - The junior wide receiver from Selma, North Carolina set or tied three single-game program records last week in a 45-40 loss to USA South foe Huntingdon. Adams caught 11 passes, which ties the school record, for 208 yards, which sets a new NCWC record. He also tied his own program record with three touchdown receptions. Adams averaged 18.9 yards per catch with a long reception of 56 yards. Also Nominated: Cortez Vernon, Greensboro; Troy Helton, Ferrum; Evan Pittenger, Maryville; Emontie Dears, Methodist.

Football Offensive Rookie of the Week
Charles George, Ferrum - The freshman running back from Crouse, North Carolina rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-20 victory over USA South rival Greensboro. George carried the ball 21 times for 7.0 yards per rush. Also Nominated: Mario Williams, Maryville; Jaytarius Steele, Huntingdon; Dylan DeGroot, Methodist. 

Football Defensive Player of the Week 
Jake Green, Huntingdon - The Yulee, Florida senior linebacker recorded nine total tackles and had the game-clinching interception in a 45-40 win over USA South foe N.C. Wesleyan last week. Green made three solo tackles with six assisted take downs. He broke-up a two-point conversion which would have made it a three-point game before grabbing his interception with less than three minutes remaining in the game. Additionally, two weeks ago, Green totaled 12 tackles in a 35-21 win over Belhaven. Also Nominated: Anthony Janezic, N.C. Football Defensive Rookie of the Week
Trevor Campbell, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman defensive back from Lakeland, Florida totaled six tackles and grabbed his first career interception in a 45-40 loss to USA South foe Huntingdon. Campbell collected five solo tackles and one assisted take down. His interception came in the third quarter and led to a Bishop score. Also Nominated: Ron McGriff, Maryville; Trey Hayes, Huntingdon; Carlos McCracken, Methodist.

Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Willie Coleman, Huntingdon - The Montgomery, Alabama junior kick returner scored a touchdown with a 89-yard kickoff return in a 45-40 win over USA South foe N.C. Wesleyan last week. Coleman returned two kickoffs for a total of 132 yards. His touchdown came in the second quarter and gave the Hawks a lead that they would not relinquish. Additionally, two weeks ago, in a 35-21 victory over Belhaven, Coleman returned three kickoffs for a total of 66 yards. Also Nominated: Max Peets, Maryville; Brandon Torres, Methodist.

Men's Soccer Player of the Week
Caleb Lucas, Maryville - The junior forward from Maryville, Tennessee tallied four goals and four assists in a 3-0 week for the Scots. In a 7-1 win over USA South foe William Peace, Lucas scored the match's first goal then assisted on two others. In a 9-0 victory over USA South rival LaGrange, Lucas tallied a hat trick with three goals while also assisting on two goals including the eventual game-winner. Finally, in a 5-0 win over Washington & Jefferson, Lucas was held scoreless but did manage four shots. Also Nominated: Shaun Watt, Greensboro; Nate Mackey, Covenant.

Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Jon Taylor, Maryville - The senior goalkeeper from Milford, Ohio posted a 3-0 record and one shutout for the Scots last week by stopping 13 shots in 243 minutes in net. In a 7-1 win over USA South foe William Peace, Taylor collected six saves. In a 9-0 victory over USA South rival LaGrange, Taylor played the first 63 minutes and stopped all three shots he faced. Finally, in a 5-0 win over Washington & Jefferson, Taylor recorded a shutout by making four saves. Also Nominated: Kenneth Hearn, Piedmont; Jaime Payamps, Greensboro; Daniel Kubin, Covenant.

Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week
George Davies, Maryville - The freshman midfielder from Preston, United Kingdom tallied three goals and two assists as the Scots posted a 3-0 record. In a 7-1 win over USA South foe William Peace, Davies was held scoreless. In a 9-0 victory over USA South rival LaGrange, Davies scored two goals and assisted on another. Finally, in a 5-0 win over Washington & Jefferson, Davies notched one goal and one assist. Also Nominated: Carlos Barragan, Greensboro; Ethan Pettit, Covenant.

Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Allyson Hale, Maryville - The South Pittsburg, Tennessee senior forward tallied five goals with one assist in a 2-1 week for the Scots. In a 5-0 victory over USA South foe William Peace, Hale scored twice. In a 5-1 win over USA South rival LaGrange, Hale tallied a hat trick with three goals, including the eventual game-winner, and one assist. In a 1-0 loss at Sewanee, Hale was held scoreless with one shot on goal. Also Nominated: Megan Hatfield, Piedmont; Samara Alba, Greensboro; Johanna Ohrnberg, Averett; Meredith McCarty, Meredith; Mari Mitterling, William Peace.

Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Brittany Morrison, Greensboro - The Greensboro, North Carolina freshman goalkeeper led the Pride to a 2-0 win over USA South rival Averett in her only action from last week. Morrison stopped all seven shots she faced to earn the shutout. She did not see action in the team's 6-0 loss to Meredith. Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week
Cassidy Reich, Piedmont - The Largo, Florida freshman forward tallied one goal in a 2-0 week for the Lions versus USA South competition. Her lone goal was a big one as it came in overtime to defeat Covenant, 1-0. This is Reich's second overtime game-winning goal of the season. In a 3-1 win over Huntingdon, Reich was held scoreless but did manage two shots. Also Nominated: Brittany Morrison, Greensboro; Skye Gunn, Averett; Jessica Wallace, Meredith; Miranda Lukas, Maryville; Allie Vannoy, Covenant; Camryn Carter, Huntingdon; Saige Macleay, LaGrange.

Volleyball Player of the Week
Ginny Moore, Covenant - The sophomore outside hitter from Fort Myers, Florida averaged 5.11 kills, with a .236 hitting percentage and 4.44 digs per set as the Scots posted a 3-0 record last week. Moore tallied double-doubles in each of the three matches. In a 3-0 win over Sewanee, Moore tallied 16 kills, ten digs and one assist. In a 3-0 victory over USA South foe LaGrange, Moore posted 15 kills, 18 digs, one assist and one service ace. Finally, in a 3-0 win over USA South rival Huntingdon, Moore contributed 15 kills, 12 digs, two assists and two service aces. Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Sarah Hendrix, Ferrum - The junior defensive specialist from Summerfield, North Carolina averaged 7.08 digs per set as the Panthers posted a 4-0 record last week. In a 3-0 win over Hollins, Hendrix totaled 30 digs, two assists and one service ace. In a 3-0 win over USA South foe Mary Baldwin, Hendrix posted 15 digs, one assist and one service ace. In a 3-0 victory over USA South rival N.C. Wesleyan, Hendrix contributed 18 digs, two service aces and one assist. Finally, in a 3-0 win over USA South foe William Peace, Hendrix totaled 22 digs, two assists and one service ace. Also Nominated: Tori Belcher, Greensboro; Katelyn Holley, Averett; Haley Hixon, Piedmont; Ariana Buchanan, Covenant; Lauren Condon, Huntingdon; Karly Klimas, Methodist.

Volleyball Rookie of the Week
Jordan Tew, Methodist - The freshman outside hitter from Roseboro, North Carolina averaged 3.33 kills and 3.89 digs per set as the Monarchs posted a 3-0 record last week versus USA South competition. In a 3-0 win over N.C. Wesleyan, Tew notched a double-double with 15 kills and 15 digs to go along with one assist. In a 3-0 victory over Greensboro, Tew totaled five kills, 17 digs and two blocks. Finally, in a 3-0 win over Mary Baldwin, Tew posted ten kills, four service aces, three digs and one block. Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Cody Parker, Piedmont - The junior from Clarkesville, Georgia placed first out of 11 runners at the Piedmont College Fall Invitational last week. Parker completed the 8K course in a time of 29:06. Also Nominated: Sean Hagstrom, Maryville; Micha Sneller, Covenant; Jacob Santangelo, Averett.

Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
Clayton Thayer, Piedmont - The freshman from Flowery Branch, Georgia placed second out of 11 runners at the Piedmont College Fall Invitational last week. Thayer completed the 8K course in a time of 29:30. Also Nominated: Alfredo Gardia Huerta, Averett; Micha Sneller, Covenant. 

Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Reese Bowles, Piedmont - The sophomore from Jefferson, Georgia placed first out of 26 runners at the Piedmont College Fall Invitational last week. Bowles completed the 6K course in a time of 24:44, helping the Lions to a second place team finish. Also Nominated: Jessica Myers, Averett; Allie Gallagher, Meredith; Ruthie Cargill, Covenant; Emily Guillaume, Maryville.

Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
Kristin Whitlock, Piedmont - The freshman from Nicholson, Georgia placed seventh out of 26 runners at the Piedmont College Fall Invitational last week. Whitlock completed the 6K course in a time of 26:04, helping the Lions to a second place team finish. Also Nominated: Florencia Sorrentino, N.C. Wesleyan; Jessica Myers, Averett; Macy Brinson, Meredith; Stephanie Lutz, Covenant.
