Hawks welcome 154 football players for preseason practice

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon head football coach Mike Turk and his staff welcomed 154 players to campus on Wednesday for the start of preseason camp.

The group includes 72 newcomers and 82 returning players.

"This is always an exciting day but it is a long day," Huntingdon football coach Mike Turk said. "With the logistics involved in getting everyone checked in, taking care of paper work, physicals, etc., it's a pretty hectic day. But it's followed by one of my favorite days, the first day of practice.

"We play our first game in a little more than three weeks, so we have a lot to do and very little time to do it. But that is the routine we are accustomed to and we're looking forward to being on the field."

Huntingdon will take the field for practice at 9 a.m. on Thursday. The Hawks open the season on Sept. 3 at Louisiana College at 1 p.m.

Football is the first of four Huntingdon athletic teams scheduled to report for preseason practice. Men's and women's soccer will report on Tuesday and volleyball will report on Aug. 17.
