Huntingdon College releases 2018 football schedule

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon College athletic department officially released its 2018 football schedule on Friday.

The three-time defending USA South Athletic Conference champions will face three non-conference teams and seven conference rivals as they battle to earn a fourth straight NCAA Division III playoff berth.

"Our three non-conference opponents are all quality programs, with one of them being an in-state rival.  These games should challenge us, each in a different way, and hopefully prepare us for conference play," Huntingdon head football coach Mike Turk said. "The conference schedule is always tough, and this year we play more conference games on the road than we do at home.  We certainly can't waste any time in getting ready for 2018."

Huntingdon will play five games at home and five games on the road, but in conference play, the Hawks will be on the road for four of the seven games.

The season will open at Guilford on Sept. 1. The Hawks and Quakers met for the first time in 2017. In Week 2, Huntingdon hosts in-state rival Birmingham-Southern in the battle for the Wesley Cup.

After an early bye week, the Hawks close out the non-conference portion of their schedule at home against Thomas More College on Sept. 22. The Saints are a new addition to the schedule, but this is not the first meeting between the two teams.

The teams met twice from 2004-2006. The Saints were the Hawks' first opponent at Charles Lee Field on Oct. 2, 2004, during Turk's first season as head coach.

Huntingdon will open conference play with two straight road trips. The Hawks travel to Methodist on Sept. 29 and play at Maryville on Oct. 6.

The Hawks will welcome Brevard to Samford Stadium on Oct. 13 before traveling to Averett on Oct. 20. A home game with Greensboro on Oct. 27 will close out October.

In November, Huntingdon plays at North Carolina Wesleyan on Nov. 3 before closing the regular season at home against LaGrange on Nov. 10.
