Huntingdon names football team captains

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – Huntingdon head coach Mike Turk officially announced the football team captains on Tuesday.

Four seniors and one junior were selected by a vote of their teammates. The 2019 captains are offensive lineman Reed Crosby, quarterback Michael Lambert, defensive linemen DeAnte' Griffith and Red Hinton and linebacker Drew Schlemmer.

"All five captains are guys who have been around our program and have made an impact on our program in one way or another," Turk said. "On offense, Reed is entering his third year as a starter and Michael is entering his second season as a starter. On defense, we have one player (DeAnte') who has started and made plays for us since his freshman season and two guys (Red and Drew) who are not starters, but have played and are tremendous leaders.

"It speaks to the character of this team that we chose guys who have different leadership styles, but whether they are on the field or off, they are viewed as guys their teammates can trust and count on."

Huntingdon opens the season at home on Saturday against Guilford College. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
