Hawks Head to GSAC Finals After 22-Point Win over Piedmont
MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The Huntingdon College men's basketball teams knocked off Piedmont 96-74 in the Great South Athletic Conference semifinals on Friday. The win sends the Hawks to the GSAC championship match on Saturday against LaGrange College.
Senior Adrian Williams' posted a game-high 23 points and 8 rebounds in the victory. Huntingdon pulled away from the Lions at the end of the first half by taking a 15-point advantage into intermission in front of the Roland Rowdies, student section, and never looked back.
In the second half, Huntingdon punched its GSAC finals ticket by holding at least a 13-point margin or greater in the final period over the Lions. The Hawks held their largest lead of the game (25) twice in the second half.
The Hawks out-shot Piedmont 58.5 percent (31-for-53) to 46.4 percent (32-for-69) from the field in the GSAC semifinals contest. Huntingdon held a 35-25 advantage on the glass over the Lions on Friday evening. The Hawks recorded 27 points from the free throw line in 32 attempts, while Piedmont only collected eight points from the charity stripe.
Senior Jack Montgomery chipped in 14 points, while seniors Ephriam Hudson and Deshaun Williams each added 13 in the win.
Piedmont's Daniel Lampl finished with a team-high 13 points in the Lions final game of the season.
