Huntingdon men’s basketball comes up short at Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team fell behind in the first half and couldn't close the gap in a 74-64 loss at Millsaps on Sunday.

The Majors (3-1) built a 39-13 lead in the first half and led by 19 at the half. The Hawks (0-4) battled back in the second half, outscoring the Majors 42-33. Huntingdon opened the second half with a 15-8 run and cut Millsaps' lead to 12 points on a pair of Ryan Petty free throws with 15:40 to play in the game.

But the Majors answered and maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the second half.

Jason Varney led Huntingdon with 17 points and eight rebounds. Jerrod Lee added 11 points, four assists and four rebounds.

Taylor Meades led Millsaps with 12 points. Ryan Berger added 11 points and Nick Cortese and Sterling Thomas each added 10 points.

The Hawks travel to Birmingham-Southern on Wednesday. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
