Huntingdon men’s basketball loses GSAC battle at Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Huntingdon fell behind early, rallied in the second half but came up short on Saturday at Maryville.

Huntingdon pulled within three points in the final 10 minutes, but Maryville pulled away for a 99-88 win.

The Hawks (6-14, 2-3 Great South Athletic Conference) trailed 69-66 with 8:14 to play, but Maryville (13-8, 4-2) used a 25-12 run in the next six minutes to open the game back up.

Huntingdon trailed 45-39 at the half before falling behind by 16 points early in the second half. The Hawks rallied and made it a four-point game midway through the second half and then a three-point game. Huntingdon remained within striking distance until the Scots' final push.

Jason Varney and Ryan Petty combined for 45 of Huntingdon's points. Varney finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds and Petty had 22 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Jeremiah Thomas and Austin Hill each added 14 points and Kanden Blackmon scored 13 points. Mike Kilpatrick had five assists.

Christian Ford led Maryville with 22 points and Wesley Lambert had 21 points, five assists and four steals. Milton Stanley added 18 points, Donald Rucker scored 12 points and Maverick Willett finished with 10 points.

Huntingdon travels to Covenant on Wednesday.
