Huntingdon’s Thomas, Varney, Kilpatrick and Tackett recognized by GSAC

DECATUR, Ga. – Two Huntingdon men's basketball players earned All-Conference honors and two others were named All-Academic with the release of the Great South Athletic Conference awards on Thursday.

Junior Jeremiah Thomas and sophomore Jason Varney, the Hawks' leading scorers this season, were named All-Conference. Entering Friday's GSAC tournament, Thomas is averaging 14.8 points and 9.1 rebounds per game and Varney is averaging 14 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.

"Jeremiah and Jason have been very consistent players all year," Huntingdon head coach Mike Pugh said. "They've worked hard in practice, played hard in the games and have produced on a consistent basis. To me, a big part of earning All-Conference is being consistent."

Senior Mike Kilpatrick and sophomore Cody Tackett both earned All-Academic recognition. This is the second straight year Kilpatrick has received All-Academic honors.

"Mike and Cody are good students and conscientious people. They try to be the best they can be," Pugh said. "They're two guys you don't have to worry about because you know they're going to be doing the right things."

Kilpatrick was also recognized as a GSAC Sportsmanship Award winner.

"Mike has displayed outstanding character the whole time he has been at Huntingdon," Pugh said. "He's very deserving of this award."
