Huntingdon men’s basketball falls to Emory in season opener

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team was tested in Friday's season opener.

Facing Emory University, a team that was ranked as high as 13th in the nation last season, Huntingdon came up short in the BSC Classic at Birmingham-Southern. Emory took a 24-point lead in the first half and knocked off the Hawks 98-70.

Emory (1-0) used a 29-6 run to take control in the first half and led 52-35 at halftime. The Hawks (0-1) pulled within 14 points twice in the first five minutes of the second half, but Emory answered. The Eagles extended their lead to 25 points with 10:03 left in the game and controlled the remainder of the game.

Ryan Petty led Huntingdon with 21 points. Austin Hill added 14 points and seven rebounds and Jason Varney finished with 12 points. Jeremiah Thomas and Byron Dudley both had five rebounds. Dudley also had three blocked shots.

Huntingdon returns to action in the BSC Classic on Saturday, playing 12th-ranked Birmingham-Southern at 5 p.m.
