Huntingdon men rally for win over Rust

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team snapped a six-game losing streak with a 74-73 win over Rust College on Saturday.

The Hawks (6-15) got off to a slow start before battling their way back into the game. Huntingdon fell behind 11-0 before scoring its first points with 11:18 left in the half. The Hawks rallied, but trailed until the final 10 minutes of the game.

An Austin Hill free throw tied the game 53-53 with 9:16 to play and a Kanden Blackmon 3-pointer gave the Hawks their first lead of the game, 56-53.

Huntingdon would not trail again but could not pull away from the Bearcats. The Hawks' biggest lead was only seven points, but Huntingdon had an answer each time Rust tried to retake the lead.

Ryan Petty led the Hawks with 17 points, seven assists and six steals. Hill and Jeremiah Thomas each added 16 points. Hill also had nine rebounds.

The Hawks return to action on Feb. 16 at Covenant at 3 p.m.
