Huntingdon men’s basketball falls to Emory & Henry in season opener

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team fell to Emory & Henry in the Berry College Tip-Off Classic on Friday.

Huntingdon led for much of the game but lost 89-73.

"We led at the half, but we made too many mistakes," Huntingdon head coach Mike Pugh said. "We had 24 turnovers we were only 21-of-34 from the free-throw line. It's tough to win when you play like that. But those are areas we're going to work on as we move forward."

Huntingdon led 49-40 at the half and maintained the lead for most of the second half before Emory & Henry took the lead in the final nine minutes. Huntingdon kept it close and only trailed 78-71 with four minutes to play but the Wasps continued to ease ahead.

Terry Moorer led the Hawks with 15 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots and Jason Varney added 13 points.

Alex Layson finished with 12 points and Dantavius Washington added 10 points and six rebounds. Austin Hill had nine points and six rebounds and Tyler Stubbs finished with nine points.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday at 5 p.m. against Berry.
