Huntingdon men’s basketball comes up short in home opener

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team took a one-point lead with 32 seconds to play, but Rust College answered and denied the Hawks a final shot in an 88-87 win on Saturday.

After senior Austin Hill sank a 3-pointer to give Huntingdon an 87-86 lead, Rust responded with a layup and a steal in the final 11 seconds to beat the Hawks at Roland Arena.

Huntingdon (0-4) led for almost the entire first half, building a 10-point lead at one point, before Rust (3-1) took a 53-52 lead at halftime. Hill's 3-pointer gave the Hawks their only lead of the second half.

Hill finished with a game-high 24 points and nine rebounds and Terry Moorer added 19 points and eight rebounds. Cody Tackett hit five 3-pointers in the first half and finished with 15 points and four assists and Jason Varney had 10 points.

Huntingdon travels to AUM on Monday for a 7 p.m. game.
