Huntingdon men’s basketball comes up short in OT

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team led Methodist for most of the game on Sunday but came up short 76-72 in overtime.

Huntingdon (1-7, 1-1 USA South) led by as many as 11 points in the first half and didn't trail until the final five minutes of the second half. But Methodist (3-9, 1-1) rallied in the final minutes to force overtime.

In overtime, Methodist never trailed. The Monarchs led 72-69 before an Austin Hill 3-pointer tied the game with 1:01 to play. Methodist hit a layup and two free throws in the final eight seconds to seal the game.

"We played hard today, we just ran out of gas late in the game," said Huntingdon assistant coach Tommy Bracknell, who served as acting head coach this weekend while head coach Mike Pugh recovered from the flu. "I'm proud of the guys and the way we competed this weekend. We won one of two on the road and we had a chance to win both.

"Our team chemistry is developing and the effort is there, we just need a little more time to play together. We're going to keep working and keep moving forward."

Hill led the Hawks with 25 points and 10 rebounds and Jerome Davis added 21 points and eight rebounds.

Huntingdon returns to action at Roland Arena on Tuesday, hosting AUM at 7 p.m.
