Huntingdon’s Hill named USA South Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team gained momentum last week with three straight wins. Senior Austin Hill was a big part of that success, averaging 24 points and 10 rebounds for the week.

Hill's performance was recognized on Monday with the release of the USA South Athletes of the Week.

For the week, Hill recorded 22 points and eight rebounds in a 91-84 overtime win against Birmingham-Southern, 30 points and nine rebounds in a 95-92 win against North Carolina Wesleyan and 20 points and 13 rebounds in a 74-63 win over William Peace.

Hill has scored at least 20 points in eight straight games and has scored 30 or more points three times this season. Averaging 21.3 points per game for the season, Hill leads the USA South in scoring average and is ranked in the top 30 nationally.

He also ranks fourth in the conference with 8.2 rebounds per game and is third in 3-pointers made (42). Among conference players with a minimum 30 attempts from 3-point range, Hill has the best 3-point percentage at 45.2 (42-for-93).

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Austin Hill, Huntingdon - The senior forward from Montgomery, Alabama averaged a double-double of 24.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest as the Hawks compiled a 3-0 record last week. In a 91-84, overtime, win over Birmingham Southern, Hill tallied 22 points, eight rebounds, one assist and one steal. In a 95-92 victory over USA South foe N.C. Wesleyan, Hill totaled 30 points, nine rebounds and one assist. Finally, in a 74-62 win over USA South rival William Peace, Hill notched a double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds to go along with two blocks. Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Chevena Pickard, Greensboro - The senior guard from Greensboro, North Carolina averaged 20.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.5 steals and 3.0 assists per contest in a 1-1 week versus Conference competition. In a 79-72 loss at nationally-ranked Ferrum, Pickard totaled 19 points, three rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block. In an 80-76, overtime, win at Methodist, Pickard nearly notched a triple-double with 22 points, 11 rebounds and nine steals. She also added three assists in the victory. Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Keith Corbett, Methodist - The Washington, D.C. freshman guard/forward averaged a double-double of 14.0 points and 11.0 rebounds to go along with 2.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals per contest in a 2-0 week for the Monarchs versus Conference competition. In an 80-73, overtime, win over William Peace, Corbett notched a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds with three assists, three blocks and one assist. In an 82-62 victory over Greensboro, Corbett contributed 13 points, eight rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block. Also Nominated: Devan Gregory, Greensboro; Charles Bryant, Averett; Marcus Williams, N.C. Wesleyan; Brian Edwards, Piedmont; Robby Bell, Covenant.

Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Kenyata Harris, N.C. Wesleyan - The Raleigh, North Carolina freshman guard averaged 17.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 1.0 assists per contest as the Bishops posted a 1-2 record last week versus USA South competition. In a 69-67 loss to Meredith, Harris scored a career-high 28 points with nine rebounds, four assists and one block. In a 71-66 win at Huntingdon, Harris totaled 15 points, nine rebounds, three assists, three steals and one block. Finally, in a 76-66 loss at LaGrange, Harris contributed eight points, seven rebounds and one steal.
