Huntingdon men give up lead late in loss to Covenant

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team led until the final four minutes on Saturday but came up short in a 67-56 loss to Covenant.

In a game that featured eight lead changes in the first half, the score was tied 26-26 at halftime. The Hawks (3-16, 2-6 USA South) took the lead four minutes into the second half and controlled the tempo for the next 12 minutes.

But after Huntingdon took a 52-49 lead with 4:33 left in the game, the Hawks would not score again until 1:05 remained. Covenant (6-13, 5-5 USA South) took the lead for good with 3:40 to play and closed the game with an 18-4 run.

Dantavius Washington finished with 15 points, six rebounds and three steals for the Hawks. Raheem Berry scored 11 points and Taylor Hughes added eight points and six rebounds. Andre Ashley pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and Jerome Davis recorded seven assists.

Huntingdon hosts Piedmont on Feb. 7 at 2 p.m.
