Men’s basketball falls at Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team battled Piedmont on Sunday but came up short 90-81.

The Hawks (6-6, 1-3 USA South) played from behind for much of the game, but only trailed 74-72 with 4:33 to play. Piedmont (7-5, 2-2 USA South) pulled ahead to an 80-72 lead with 2:09 to play and hit 10-of-12 free throws in the final 1:34 to close out the game.

"We played hard and I was proud of our effort," Huntingdon head coach Mike Pugh said. "Playing back-to-back games on the road is tough, but the guys battled. I was really proud of Brandon McLean. He is getting better each game."

McLean, a 6-foot-7 freshman, turned in his third double-double in four games with 10 rebounds and a season-high 16 points. Behind McLean, Jerrod Pettus finished with 14 points and seven rebounds, Andre Ashley added 13 points and Dantavius Washington followed with 11 points.

Huntingdon plays at LaGrange on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
