Hawks shake off Rust

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Senior Raheem Berry recorded his second straight 20-point game to help lead the Huntingdon men's basketball team past Rust, 88-70 on Wednesday night.

Huntingdon (7-9), which snapped a six game losing streak with the win, started off fast and built an 18 point lead with 4:52 remaining in the first half. Rust (6-15) battled back and cut the lead to eight, 42-34, going into halftime.

Rust used a 6-2 run to start the second half and cut the lead to 44-42, but was unable to get any closer. The Hawks built a 16 point lead with 5:54 remaining in the game and closed out the win.

R.J. Jones, Dantavius Washington and Berry combined for 54 points to help the Hawks pick up their seventh win this season. Berry added nine rebounds and three steals to go with his 20-point performance.

"Raheem played very well and Dantavius gave us what we've been expecting from our bench play," Huntingdon head coach Mike Pugh said. "It wasn't very pretty but we needed this win badly and we're excited about it."

Jones made five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Washington added 17 points and nine rebounds in 15 minutes of play.

Jahal Robinson recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Huntingdon had 32 bench points to Rust's 17.

Huntingdon travels to Methodist on Saturday for a USA South matchup. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
