Alabama State too much for Hawks in exhibition game

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team faced Alabama State on Monday night for the Hawks' final exhibition game of the preseason.

Huntingdon played the Division I Hornets very close in the first half and trailed by four at the break. Alabama State pulled away in the second half and took an 89-61 win.

The Hawks led by three twice early in the game, by way of a Scotty Chadwick 3-pointer and a Jahal Robinson jumper. Huntingdon played the Hornets aggressively and never trailed by more than seven points in the first half. The Hawks shot 35 percent in the first 20 minutes while the Hornets shot 33 percent.  ASU took a 40-36 lead into halftime.

The Hornets went on a 14-0 run to the start the second half and jumped out to a 65-44 lead in just under 10 minutes and continued to build on the lead for the remainder of the game.

Freshman Aaron Washington led the Hawks with 12 points in eight minutes, going four-for-five from 3-point range. Wyatt Popovich and Charvez' Hobson each had nine points.

Trey Livingston scored seven points while Brandon McLean and Robinson each had four points and four rebounds.  Brett Mitchell had a team-high five rebounds.

Huntingdon opens its regular season on Nov. 15 when they host Berry College for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
