MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team took Berry College to the final seconds but came up short 73-71 on Tuesday night.
The Hawks (0-4) rallied from an eight-point deficit, 62-54, midway through the second half and used a basket by Brandon McLean to tie the game, 71-71 with 1:03 to play. Berry (4-1) took advantage of a Huntingdon turnover with nine seconds to play and scored to take the lead with five seconds remaining.
With less than two seconds to play, Berry deflected Huntingdon's inbound pass and the Hawks were not able to get off a final shot before the buzzer.
A close game from the start, neither team led by more than five points in the first 30 minutes of the game. The Vikings built an eight-point lead with 8:43 to play.
McLean led all scorers with 20 points and also pulled down seven rebounds. Andre Ashley added 17 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Wyatt Popovich had five assists.
Huntingdon travels to Birmingham-Southern on Saturday for a 3 p.m. game.
