Franklin leads Hawks in loss to Transylvania

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Freshman KK Franklin turned in a season-high 18 points to lead the Huntingdon men's basketball team in a 98-70 loss to Transylvania University on Tuesday in the Don Lane Classic.

Franklin was 7-for-7 from the field, including 4-for-4 from 3-point range, and matched his season-high with five rebounds. Sophomore Brandon McLean was 7-for-12 from the field and finished with 15 points and five rebounds. Junior Wyatt Popovich added 12 points on four 3-pointers.

Senior Andre Ashley had a team-high seven rebounds and sophomore Jahal Robinson had seven assists and five rebounds.

Huntingdon (0-9) jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the first five minutes of the game before Transylvania (3-5) answered with a 36-9 run. The Pioneers took a 40-20 lead with 5:41 left in the first half, carried a 54-33 lead into halftime and continued to pull away in the second half.

Huntingdon will close out the Don Lane Classic on Wednesday against the loser of the Ohio Northern-Lynchburg game. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. (Central).
