Huntingdon beats Birmingham Southern 79-70

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A total of four men's basketball players scored 15 or more points to lead the Huntingdon men's basketball team past in-state rival Birmingham Southern 79-70 on Wednesday night.

Tied 34-34 at halftime, the Hawks (2-11) took the lead for good off a Brandon McLean jumper, 58 seconds into the second-half. Huntingdon built a 14-point lead midway through the half and survived a late comeback attempt by the Panthers (5-9).

The Hawks started the game with tempo and opened a 16-6 lead at the 15:16 mark of the first-half. Birmingham Southern didn't go away easy and took its first lead of the game with 4:32 remaining in the opening half. Both teams would exchange the lead in the final minutes before going into halftime tied at 34-34.

"It was a great team win," head coach Caleb Kimbrough said. "You come back from the break and there's so much change. You win a really close game at home and then lose one on the road but we were able to rally and keep the enthusiasm that we have been trying to preach. I'm really excited."

Sophomore Scotty Chadwick had a career-high 19 points for the Hawks. Chadwick hit four 3-pointers and grabbed four rebounds. Sophomore Brandon McLean followed with 15 points and pulled down six rebounds and recorded three steals.

Senior Andre Ashley scored 18 points and recorded four rebounds while K.K. Franklin went 5-of-7 from 3-point range and finished the night with 15 points.

Jahal Robinson scored six points and added four assists, three rebounds and two steals.

The Hawks host Ferrum on Saturday for a 2 p.m. USA South Athletic Conference matchup.
