Huntingdon falls to Ferrum in 2OT

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's basketball battled back from a 17-point deficit but couldn't complete the comeback in a 69-67 double overtime loss to Ferrum College on Saturday.

Senior Andre Ashley sank a pair of free throws with 38 seconds left in the second overtime to make it a two-point game before sophomore Brandon McLean blocked a Ferrum shot with six seconds to play.

Huntingdon called timeout and set up for a final shot but could not get the shot off before the buzzer.

Ashley led Huntingdon (2-12, 0-3 USA South) with 22 points, matching his season high. He also had seven rebounds and three steals. Freshman KK Franklin added 12 points and five rebounds.

Mclean and Scotty Chadwick each pulled down seven rebounds and Trey Livingston had six rebounds.

After trailing 50-33 with 12:33 to play in regulation, the Hawks put together an 18-2 run to get back in the game. McLean hit a pair of free throws to tie the game 58-58 with 25 seconds left and Ferrum (8-6, 3-0 USA South) missed a shot in the final seconds to set up the first overtime.

In the first overtime period, Ashley and Franklin combined to score all seven of Huntingdon's points. Franklin hit a 3-pointer in the final seconds to tie the game 65-65 and the Panthers missed a shot at the buzzer to send the game into a second overtime.

The Hawks return to Roland Arena on Sunday against Averett University (3-11, 1-2 USA South). Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
