Men’s basketball comes up short against Averett

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team lost 67-61 to Averett on Sunday.

Senior Andre Ashley hit a pair of free-throws with 2:18 remaining in the game to pull the Hawks within two, but the Cougars used an 8-4 run to seal the victory.

With the loss, Huntingdon falls to 2-13 and 0-4 in the USA South Athletic Conference. Averett improves to 4-11 and 2-2 in the conference.

Both teams exchanged the lead early to start the game, but Huntingdon took a 9-6 lead with 14:46 remaining in the opening half and held it until 16:26 remaining in the game. A pair of Averett free-throws gave the Cougars a 37-35 lead which they held for the remainder of the game.

Brandon McLean led the Hawks with 13 points and eight rebounds. The sophomore also recorded two assists and two blocks. Scotty Chadwick finished the game with 12 points while Ashley scored 11 points.

KK Franklin finished with six points, five rebounds and two blocks.

Huntingdon travels to Maryville on Saturday for a 1 p.m. conference matchup.
