Huntingdon falls to Piedmont in final minute

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team took Piedmont to the final seconds on Saturday but came up short in a 75-72 loss.

Freshman Aaron Washington scored with 39 seconds remaining to give the Hawks (2-18, 0-9 USA South) a 72-70 lead. But Piedmont (12-8, 6-3 USA South) answered with a 3-pointer with 31 seconds left and a pair of free throws with four seconds left.

Huntingdon attempted a 3-pointer with one second left, but the shot was off its mark.

Senior Andre Ashley was the only Hawk in double figures and led Huntingdon with 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Huntingdon led for much of the game and built a nine-point lead three times in the first half. Piedmont rallied and took its largest lead of the game, six points, late in the first half. The Lions led 37-33 at halftime.

In the second half, the Hawks regained the lead and led by as many as seven points with 9:57 remaining in the game. In the final nine minutes of the game, there were seven lead changes and neither team led by more than three points.

Huntingdon returns to action at home on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Maryville.
