Hawks can’t keep pace with Maryville

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team fought back from a slow start on Sunday but fell behind in the second half and lost to Maryville 81-66.

The Hawks fell behind by 12 points in the first six minutes of the game but rallied to within three points, 34-31 late in the first half. After trailing 41-33 at halftime, Huntingdon cut Maryville's lead to one, 41-40, with 18:17 left in the game.

But from there, Maryville (16-5, 6-4 USA South) began to pull ahead for good. The Scots built a 13-point lead with 11:55 to play and led by at least 10 points for the final 10 minutes of the game.

Andre Ashley had 13 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Hawks (2-19, 0-10 USA South). Brett Mitchell added six rebounds and eight points, Trey Livingston also had six rebounds and Charlie Johnson had five rebounds.

Huntingdon hosts Covenant on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
