Hawks off to 2-0 start for first time in NCAA era

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team opened the Daly Seven Tip-off Classic with an 80-60 win over Hampden-Sydney on Friday.

The win marks the first 2-0 start for the Hawks during the NCAA era and the largest margin of victory since a 22-point win over Piedmont in the 2010-11 season.

Huntingdon used an early 24-3 run to take control against Hampden-Sydney and led by at least nine points for the final 31 minutes of the game.

Tied 7-7 less than five minutes into the game, the Hawks built a 31-10 lead with 8:30 left in the first half and led by as many as 22 points in the first half. The Tigers made a push late in the first half and cut Huntingdon's lead to nine points at halftime.

Leading 37-28 to start the second half, Huntingdon regained control and led by double digits for the final 19:31 of the game. The Hawks built their largest lead of the game, 68-44, with 8:22 to play and closed out the win.

T.C. Elmore led the Hawks with 22 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Kyante Pines and Jaleel Beeman each added 11 points. Pines also had seven rebounds. Isaiah King finished with 10 points and Bryant Reid had a game-high five assists.

Quick Fact: For the second straight game, Huntingdon shot close to 50-percent from the field during the second half. The Hawks hit 17-of-36 (47.2%) field goals in the second half and were 30-for-68 (44.1%) for the game.
