Huntingdon improves to 3-1 with win against Birmingham-Southern

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Junior Kyante Pines sank two free throws with one second left on the clock to lift the Huntingdon men's basketball team over Birmingham-Southern 84-82 on Monday night.

The win was the second straight against the Panthers and the third win in the past five meetings.

Pines, T.C. Elmore and Brandon McLean combined for 59 points to lead the Hawks. Elmore led all scorers with 22 points to go with three assists, Pines followed with 19 points and McLean just missed a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. McLean also had three assists and two blocks.

Jaleel Beeman finished with nine points, Cam Boyd pulled down six rebounds and Isaiah King had a team-high four assists.

Huntingdon controlled the game in the first half, building a 10-point lead in the first 12 minutes. The Hawks led by as many as 16 points in the first half and carried a 48-34 lead into halftime.

Birmingham-Southern began to chip away at the Hawks' lead in the second half and pulled within eight points twice in the first eight minutes. But Huntingdon answered and pushed its lead back to 15 points, 72-57, with 9:13 left in the game.

The Hawks maintained at least an eight-point lead until the final four minutes of the game. The Panthers cut Huntingdon's lead to five points with 3:21 to play and tied the game 82-82 with seven seconds left.

Pines hit both free throws with one second left and Scotty Chadwick made a steal on the inbounds pass to seal the win.
