Balanced Hawks put Brevard away late

BREVARD, N.C. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team battled back from a second-half deficit and beat Brevard College 75-65 on Saturday.

Huntingdon, which trailed by 11 points early in the second half, chipped away at the Tornados and took the lead for good with 8:42 to play in the game. The Hawks put the game away in the final minutes.

Leading 66-65 with 2:16 to play, Huntingdon scored the final nine points to seal the game.

Cam Boyd hit two free throws to make it a three-point game before T.C. Elmore sank a 3-pointer with 1:02 remaining. Bryant Reid and Kyante Pines each hit two free throws in the final 30 seconds to cap the win.

The Hawks used a balanced scoring effort to pick up their fourth win in five games. A total of 12 different players scored, with eight players scoring five or more points.

Brandon McLean led the way with 15 points and five rebounds and Elmore added 10 points and three assists. Boyd finished with nine points, seven rebounds and three assists, R.J. Jones had eight points and five rebounds, Charvez' Hobson had eight points and Scotty Chadwick had seven rebounds.

Quick Facts: Huntingdon's 52 rebounds against Brevard are the second most for the Hawks this season. Brevard's 33 rebounds are the fewest by a Huntingdon opponent this season … Huntingdon's 79.2 free-throw percentage marked a season-high. Huntingdon was 19-for-24 at the free-throw line on Saturday and Brevard was 17-for-23. The Hawks hit 14-of-16 free throws in the second half.
