Huntingdon rallies past Sewanee for third straight win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team overcame a slow start and beat Sewanee 64-59 on Saturday.

Trailing 59-55 with four minutes to go in the game, the Hawks took the lead and closed the game with a 9-0 run.

Layups by Charvez' Hobson and Isaiah King tied the game before King, Bryant Reid, Scotty Chadwick and Kyante Pines combined to hit 5-of-8 free throws in the final 54 seconds to seal the game.

The win was the third straight for the Hawks and the fifth in six games this season.

Before taking the lead late, Huntingdon had to battle to get back in the game. The Hawks trailed from the start of the game, fell behind by double digits midway through the first half and trailed by 15 points, 37-22, at halftime.

In the second half, Huntingdon set the tone. Behind senior Brandon McLean, the Hawks opened the second half with a 19-2 run.

McLean scored the Hawks' first 14 points to make it a three-point game, 39-36, before a Hobson dunk cut it to one point. A 3-pointer by Chadwick gave the Hawks their first lead of the game, 41-39, with 13:14 left in the second half.

Huntingdon pushed its lead to nine points, 52-43, to cap a 30-6 run in the first 11 minutes of the second half. Sewanee briefly regained the lead in the final five minutes, setting up the Hawks' final nine-point spurt.

McLean led Huntingdon with a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds and also had two blocks. King added 12 points and six rebounds, T.C. Elmore had eight points, nine rebounds and three assists, R.J. Jones finished with eight points and Pines had six rebounds.
