Huntingdon holds off Berea in first conference win of the season

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team held off a late rally by Berea College and hung on to win 71-67 on Sunday.

The Hawks, who led for almost the entire game, carried a 33-28 lead into halftime and built a 20-point lead, 56-36, midway through the second half before the Mountaineers made a late push.

Berea chipped away at the Hawks' lead during the final nine minutes of the game and pulled within three points, 70-67, with 13 seconds to play. With Berea out of timeouts, Huntingdon's Isaiah King sank 1-of-2 free throws to make it a four-point game and help the Hawks pick up their first conference win of the season.

Brandon McLean led Huntingdon with 14 points, eight rebounds and two blocks. King added 12 points and Kyante Pines had 11 points. John Jay Graves finished with 10 points and Cam Boyd had eight points and a team-high three assists. T.C. Elmore had seven points and six rebounds and R.J. Jones also had six rebounds.
