Huntingdon comes up short in overtime

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team took LaGrange College to overtime on Wednesday night before falling 88-85.

The Hawks rallied from a seven-point deficit with a minute to play in regulation and scored on a Scotty Chadwick basket at the buzzer to tie the game 77-77 and force overtime.

In overtime, the Hawks fell behind 83-77 before a 3-pointer by R.J. Jones and a layup by Kyante Pines made it 83-82 with 1:57 remaining. LaGrange pulled back ahead to a five-point lead, 87-82, before a 3-pointer by Jones made it a two-point game with 57 seconds left.

The Hawks had their chances in the final 57 seconds but could not take advantage. LaGrange added a final free throw with three seconds remaining and a Huntingdon 3-point attempt at the buzzer was off the mark.

Pines led Huntingdon with 20 points and eight rebounds and Chadwick had 15 points and seven rebounds. Jones finished with 10 points, followed by T.C. Elmore with nine points and Brandon McLean with eight points and nine rebounds.

Quick Facts: Huntingdon and LaGrange combined for 167 field goal attempts in the game. Huntingdon was 33-for-92 from the field and LaGrange was 31-for-75 … The two teams combined for 116 rebounds with Huntingdon finishing with 51 and LaGrange totaling 65. This was just the third time in 12 games the Hawks have been outrebounded this season.
