McLean’s double-double leads Hawks in loss to Piedmont

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team took Piedmont to the final seconds on Saturday but came up short 83-78 at Roland Arena.

The Hawks battled back from an 11-point deficit in the final three minutes and cut the Lions' lead to three points twice in the final 10 seconds. Piedmont answered with a pair of free throws with nine seconds left and two final free throws with less than a second remaining to seal the game.

Huntingdon senior Brandon McLean scored a career-high 23 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to record his third double-double of the season. McLean also had two blocks and two steals. He was 11-of-14 from the field.

Bryant Reid added 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals, R.J. Jones finished with 10 points and Kyante Pines had nine points.

Huntingdon started the game strong, building a 10-point lead, 23-13, in the first 11 minutes and a 12-point lead, 33-21, with 2:46 to play in the first half.

But a 20-7 run by Piedmont to close the first half and open the second half put the Lions in front. From there, Huntingdon tied the game twice midway through the second half but could never regain the lead.
