Hawks and Falcons combine for 214 points in high-scoring battle

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Six Hawks scored in double figures as the Huntingdon men's basketball team tried to match Pfeiffer University's high-scoring attack on Saturday.

The Hawks turned in their best scoring effort since 2010 but came up short in a 112-102 shootout.

Pfeiffer, a former Division II program that is reclassifying to Division III, is averaging 107.5 points per game this season. Only two teams in Division III are averaging more points per game this season.

Huntingdon controlled the first half, setting the Hawks' NCAA-era record with 55 points in the opening half. Huntingdon used a 26-0 run to take an 18-point lead, 43-25, with 4:35 left on the clock and led 55-46 at halftime.

In the second half, Huntingdon continued to hold its own and held a 67-56 lead in the first five minutes. But the Falcons used a 24-10 run to take an 80-77 lead with 9:11 left in the game.

Huntingdon continued to match the Falcons until the final four minutes when Pfeiffer pulled ahead. Tied 92-92 with 3:51 remaining, Pfeiffer used a 14-2 run to put the game away.

Sophomore Aaron Washington led the Hawks with a career-high 23 points, including a career-high six 3-pointers. Senior Brandon McLean turned in his sixth double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds and junior Cam Boyd recorded his first double-double as a Hawk with a season-high 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Junior Isaiah King had 17 points, five steals and four assists, junior Kyante Pines added 13 points and junior Scotty Chadwick finished with 10 points and five rebounds. Playing in his first varsity game, freshman Ceaunte Zachery had six assists and five rebounds.

Quick Facts: Huntingdon's 102 points are the most in a game for the Hawks since beating Trinity College 104-57 in Jan. 2010 … Huntingdon made a season-high 15 3-pointers against Pfeiffer.
