Hawks start strong but can’t hold off Berry

ROME, Ga. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team built an early lead but couldn't hold off Berry College in an 85-79 loss on Tuesday night.

The Hawks opened the game with a 10-2 run and led by 15 points, 21-6 with 10:41 left in the first half. But the lead would not last.

Berry answered with a 15-2 run and cut the Hawks' lead to 23-21 with 7:03 left in the opening half. The Hawks led 36-34 at halftime.

Huntingdon pushed its lead back to nine points, 45-36, in the first three minutes of the second half, led 61-56 with 9:27 to play and continued to lead until a little more than six minutes remained in the game.

Berry tied the game 63-63 with 6:04 left and took its first lead of the game, 66-63, with 5:33 to play. The Hawks remained in striking distance for the remainder of the game, but could not overtake the Vikings.

Kyante Pines led all scorers with 19 points and Isaiah King added 12 points. Cam Boyd had 11 points and Ceaunte Zachery finished with nine points and a team-high 10 rebounds. James Harris had a team-high six assists.
