Huntingdon falls behind in second half against Division I UNA

FLORENCE, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team matched the University of North Alabama for a half on Thursday before the Division I Lions pulled away in the second half and beat the Hawks 90-58.

Huntingdon led by four points midway through the first half and only trailed 31-29 at halftime. A basket by James Harris tied the game 31-31 less than a minute into the second half.

But UNA controlled the final 19 minutes. The Lions pulled ahead to a 49-35 lead with 15:01 to play. With Huntingdon trailing by nine points, 57-48, with 10:21 remaining, UNA put the game away with a 20-2 run.

Kyante Pines and B.J. Barker led the Hawks with 13 points apiece. Harris added nine points and a team-high six rebounds and Jacob Champion had eight points.

Records: Huntingdon (2-5); North Alabama (3-7)

Notable: Division III Huntingdon and Division I UNA do not play on a regular basis, but the two men's basketball programs do have a history. Thursday was the 18^th meeting between the programs since 1960.

Although the teams have only played three times during Huntingdon's NCAA era, the Hawks won eight times in the first 14 games of the series from 1960-1971. The Lions have won four straight and hold a 10-8 lead in the series.

Coming Up: Huntingdon will play its home opener on Dec. 20, hosting Birmingham-Southern at 3 p.m.
