Huntingdon controls Birmingham-Southern in home opener

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team put Birmingham-Southern away in the second half on Thursday to earn a 70-55 win in the Hawks' home opener.

The win was Huntingdon's second of the season against the Panthers and the fourth in the last five games against Birmingham-Southern.

Kyante Pines scored 23 points to lead the Hawks. James Harris and B.J. Barker each added 10 points, Aaron Washington followed with nine points and Isaiah King had eight points.

Trey Livingston and Mykel Woods each had seven rebounds and Charvez' Hobson had six rebounds.

Huntingdon, which never trailed in the game, led by as many as nine points in the first half and carried a 26-21 lead into halftime. Birmingham-Southern tied the game 26-26 less than two minutes into the second half before Huntingdon began to pull away.

Six points from Pines and five points from Washington helped the Hawks push their lead to 37-28 with 12:25 to play in the game. A basket by Caleb Toney and a 3-pointer by Pines helped Huntingdon cap a 22-8 run during a 10-minute span that put the Hawks in front 48-34 with less than nine minutes to play.

Huntingdon continued to control the tempo and led by double digits for the final five minutes of the game. The Hawks closed the game with a 20-10 run, building as much as an 18-point lead.
