Balanced attack leads Hawks past Mountaineers

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team remained unbeaten at home with a 60-55 win over Berea College on Sunday.

The Hawks are 3-0 at Roland Arena this season with two home conference wins this weekend. Overall, Huntingdon (6-6, 3-2 USA South) has won four of its last five games.

Against Berea (7-6, 2-4 USA South), the Hawks used a balanced scoring attack with seven players scoring between six and 10 points. Kyante Pines was the only Hawk in double figures with 10 points. Pines also had eight rebounds.

Isaiah King followed with nine points, Trey Livingston, Aaron Washington and B.J. Barker each scored seven points and Charvez' Hobson and Jacob Champion each added six points. Mykel Woods had seven rebounds and Livingston had five rebounds.

In a game that saw eight lead changes in the final six minutes, Huntingdon took the lead for good on a pair of free throws by Livingston with 1:29 to play. Leading 56-55, a basket by Pines made it a three-point game with 32 seconds remaining. Pines sank two free throws with five seconds on the clock to help seal the five-point win.  

Neither team led by more than four points for the first 16 minutes of the game before Berea took a nine-point lead late in the first half. The Mountaineers' 28-19 lead was the largest lead in the game for either team.

Trailing 28-21 at halftime, Huntingdon cut Berea's lead to 32-30 in the first four minutes of the second half. During the final 12 minutes of the game, neither team led by more than three points until Pines made the final two free throws of the game.
