Second-half surge sparks Huntingdon in 23-point victory

BREVARD, N.C. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team pulled away in the second half and cruised by Brevard College 87-64 on Wednesday.

The Hawks used a 32-4 run during a span of less than nine minutes in the second half to put the game away and earn their fifth win in the past six games. The 23-point win is the largest margin of victory for the Hawks since a 28-point win over Millsaps in Nov. 2010.

Huntingdon (7-6, 4-2 USA South) overcame a slow start before taking control against the Tornados (4-9, 1-5 USA South). Huntingdon fell behind 11-0 in the first three minutes of the game and trailed by 13 points before battling back into the game and taking a 36-35 lead at halftime.

For the first three minutes of the second half, the two teams remained even as Brevard took a 43-40 lead with 17:06 to play. But from there, the game belonged to the Hawks.

Trailing by three points, James Harris sank a free throw and Isaiah King hit a 3-pointer to start the run. Harris and King were among eight Hawks who combined to score 32 points during the next 8:22 of the game.

A dunk by Charvez' Hobson capped the 32-4 run and put the Hawks ahead 72-47 with 8:24 to play in the game.

Huntingdon outscored the Tornados 47-21 in the final 16:46 of the game.  

Kyante Pines led the Hawks with 19 points and six steals. King and B.J. Barker each added 11 points. Barker also had a team-high four assists. Damien Madison followed with 10 points and a team-high five rebounds, Aaron Washington had nine points and Hobson had seven points and four steals.
