Huntingdon edges Averett for fourth straight win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team overcame a double-digit deficit in the second half on Saturday to beat Averett University 68-61 and remain unbeaten at home this season.

The win was the fourth straight for the Hawks (8-6, 5-2 USA South) and the sixth in the last seven games. Huntingdon is 4-0 at Roland Arena this season.

Huntingdon trailed by as many as 11 points early in the second half and played from behind for much of the game. But the Hawks turned the momentum in the final nine minutes of the game.

Trailing 53-47 with 8:31 to play, Huntingdon used a 13-0 run to take the lead. A layup by Aaron Washington tied the game 53-53 before a 3-pointer by Kyante Pines gave the Hawks their first lead of the second half with 5:56 remaining.

Averett (3-11, 3-3 USA South) pulled within three points three times in the final four minutes, the final time with 58 seconds to play. Huntingdon answered and held off the Cougars as freshmen Damien Madison and B.J. Barker combined to make 4-of-6 free throws in the final 35 seconds.

Madison scored a season-high 20 points to lead all scorers and had a game-high three steals. Pines added 12 points, Barker finished with nine points and Isaiah King had a team-high five rebounds and four assists.
